@Ventures: iBusiness

Just about everyone has an iPod these days - even my 90-year old grandma is the proud owner of a Nano. A month ago, Apple announced that it has sold over 100 million iPods worldwide. It’s not surprinsingly then that accessories have done -and are stil doing- great, because it’s just pretty darn handy if you’ve got a stereo, car plug-in, lanyard headphones and adapter to go with it. Not to mention a sock or leather case… ah well, you get the picture. Let’s take a look at iPod businesses that are just a little bit more unique:

@Ventures: MP3 Tours

I’m in love with this idea: pod tours. These user generated tours are your personal guide, walking you through a city or travel destination. Tours are available through the US, Europe, Canada, Australia and South Africa. All you have to do is download them to your mp3 or iPod.

Soundwalk is one of the companies offering MP3 tours. It guides you anywhere around the world, through famous streets, musea and other hotspots. Entering the website will give you a sample of a tour in Paris. Not only do you hear your guide talking, you get background music matching the spot you’re visiting. It gives your visit just that extra dimension.

@Ventures: Environmental Friendly

My favorite business ideas are the ones that try to make the world more environmental friendly. In these inconvenient truth times they will not only make better use of the world’s scare resources, but are also bound to make the business behind it a very successful one.

1. BottleCycler - Recycling Glass Bottles
BottleCycler is an Australian company, which helps recycle disposable glass bottles. The company brings the hospitality business a machine to crush bottles. It can be placed inside the bar, enabling bartendes to stay behind the bar instead of carrying heavy bar bins outside. More importantly, the glass falls into a wheelie bin. This bin is picked up by BottleCycler and brought to to regional glass recycling plants. Read the rest of this entry »

How to find Products to sell

Practical eCommerce: If you want to know how to succeed at something, it’s a good idea to talk to someone who already has. Renowned eBay powerseller Skip McGrath offers some helpful insights on how you can find product sources for your online business.

According to McGrath, one of the best sources for products is local distributors because they’re easy to find. Go to Liquidation.com and you can search by type. Just enter the word “wholesale” and your ZIP code and you’ll get a list of manufacturers and wholesalers within 100 miles of that ZIP code. And under the company name, you’ll see the kind of products it carries.

@ventures: Uber Premium

Trendwatching recently did a briefing about so-called Uber Premium products (you should pronounce it using the best German accent you got). Uber Premium is all about status-craving consumers hunting down the next wave in exclusive goods, services and experiences that are truly out of reach for 99.9% of the mass. These are the luxury products functioning as ultimate status symbols. You shouldn’t think about that exclusive Dolce & Gabbana crystal-studded Mickey T-shirt (priced USD $1,400) or those $100 bonbons. No, Uber Premium is for the richest of the richest.

Everyday there’s an entrepreneur somewhere in the world turning a dream into a successful venture. Let these wonderful ventures inspire you to put that crazy idea of yours to action.

1. Urban Spectacles - Vinyl LP glasses
Urban Spectacles had been making glasses out of wood, but that wasn’t interesting enough for potential customers. So now they’ve started making glasses out of old LP’s, bicycle parts and even used beer bottles as materials for his handmade frames. The unique idea got the company a massive amount of free promotion, especially from blogs. This company caught everyone’s eye alright.
