@Ventures: MP3 Tours

I’m in love with this idea: pod tours. These user generated tours are your personal guide, walking you through a city or travel destination. Tours are available through the US, Europe, Canada, Australia and South Africa. All you have to do is download them to your mp3 or iPod.

Soundwalk is one of the companies offering MP3 tours. It guides you anywhere around the world, through famous streets, musea and other hotspots. Entering the website will give you a sample of a tour in Paris. Not only do you hear your guide talking, you get background music matching the spot you’re visiting. It gives your visit just that extra dimension.

AudioSnacks is a newcomer. “AudioSnack is a place to find, purchase, download, listen to and appreciate audio tours that people just like you have created to share, and a place where you can do the same for others.” Some tours are free, others will only cost you just a few dollars. Perspectives are unique: customers can take an audio tour through Chicago with a Jewish hip-hop poet, for instance, or see the sights in Seattle with a hot DJ.

Other ventures making a success out of this idea are Tourist Track and TourCaster. A venture to start in your own country?
