David and Luigi have been throwing their own parties under the name ‘Mousse’ for a year now. They bought their first turntables and started playing at a party at David’s High School in Amsterdam. The guys got more gigs when they started flyering at other schools. Now these two 17-year olds manage to get a crowd of over 300 to every Mousse party they throw and are eager to make this number even higher.

A brief overview of what your company does:
We throw parties and make our own music. We bring new styles of music to the human ears.

How did you get into business?
We go out a lot, and we came up with the idea to throw our own party as we’re are both DJ’s. But we both have a different style, so we have our own space to express ourselves with our own music and beats.

Which achievements are you proud of?
We have been doing this for almost a year now, and we’ve already been able to to spin our records in some of Amsterdam’s biggest clubs. We played in Hotel Arena, Bitterzoet and Club More, and we have other big clubs like Paradiso in prospect. We are also proud of getting Mousse filled with over 300 people practically every time.

Did you run into many obstacles?
We have had problems with people at our parties who we’d rather not have there. For example, we had a very bad DJ that really wanted to perform at Mousse, but we obviously didn’t want him to. We had a whole lot of trouble with him.

What differentiates you from other entrepreneurs?
We bring new styles of music and we’re not only bringing one type of music every time. We try to make the parties we perform at extra special and the same goes for our own Mousse parties.

What have been the keys in bringing your company to the present level?
We wouldn’t be here without music, and definately not without our friends.

Has your age given you an advantage in getting where you are now?
Not necessarily. We think it will give us an advantage in the future, because we started at a relatively young age.

How do you keep yourself motivated to work hard and to get even better at what you do?
We don’t have to motivate ourselves because music and partying is what we do best. Seeing people in the club enjoying our music is the greatest thing ever. We are motivated by other more famous DJ’s in Amsterdam.

What are the most important lessons you have learned along the way?
Always listen to the people visiting your parties and interact with them while we’re doing our job.

What is your goal in life?
Entertain, entertain… entertain till we die!

Who do you get support from?
We get a whole lot of support from our friends. We also have a couple of DJ’s in Amsterdam who have already made it big, like Mr. Wix, Aardvarck and Steven de Peven; they give us great motivation and inspiration.

Who are your role-models?
Our role models are Rednose District (Aardvarck and Steven de Peven), and Mr. Wix. These guys give us inspiration tips of how to spin in clubs.

How important do you consider networking to be?
It’s important. We mostly network via Myspace.

Apart from running your business, are there any other things you’re passionate about?
Luigi is fond of skating and David is passionate about indoor soccer. Butusic and partying are our main passions.

What would you advise people who dream of doing what you do now?
Always look on the bright side of life, and feel the bass.

Any websites/ books or other resources you can recommend beginners?
AmbitionWise of course, and for Dutch people hoegeefikeentopfeest.nl

What can we expect from you in the future?
Weird music and a whole lot of parties!

Who would you like to be contacted by?
We would love readers to get in touch with us, about our music or for bookings.
The can always reach us by going to our myspace, www.myspace.com/beesmunt, and they’re free to leave a message there. We will send something back, for sure.
